As a reminder, U.S.-trained doctors holding American Board certification are eligible to gain licensure with CPSO without certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RSPSC).

Pathway A of the Alternative Pathways to Registration for Physicians Trained in the United States policy permits eligible doctors, both family doctors and specialists, to be issued a restricted certificate of registration to practise independently limited to their scope of practice without requiring certification from either the RCPSC or CFPC.

The same policy also offers two other alternative pathways for US-trained doctors looking to practise medicine in Ontario but who are applying outside of our regular registration requirements.

Individuals with questions about CPSO’s registration pathways can contact [email protected].
