CPSO has approved changes to a policy that will allow physicians certified by an American specialty board and who have practised continuously in Ontario for five years under a restricted certificate to apply for an independent practice certificate.

The revision to the Alternative Pathways to Registration for Physicians Trained in the United States policy aligns with the Federation of Medical Regulatory Authorities of Canada (FMRAC)’s Model Standards for Medical Registration in Canada and will align CPSO with other Canadian provinces with comparable pathways.
