As Chair of the CPSO Board, I am often reminded that strong governance depends on one simple but powerful thing: participation. Our annual Board election is a chance for registrants to help shape CPSO’s work, ensuring that the decisions we make reflect the realities of practice and the needs of patients across Ontario.

This year, the call for applicants is opening earlier than last year, running from October 6-24, 2025. This is the time for registrants to consider putting their names forward and prepare their applications. I encourage you to use this opportunity to reflect on the impact you could make by serving on our Board.

The Governance and Nominating Committee (GNC) has also taken a careful look at the existing Board composition to identify the attributes we need most. For the 2026 election, the GNC is placing particular emphasis on registrants who work or live in remote and/or rural areas, among other key attributes.

The GNC will thoughtfully review all applicants and bring forward a balanced and highly capable Slate of Nominees for the election, which will run from February 17 to March 10, 2026.

I am also proud to share an important milestone: for the first time, our newly-registered physician assistants (PAs) are eligible both to stand for election and to vote in 2026. This is an important step in recognizing the integral role PAs play in our health system, and I encourage PAs to consider applying and voting.

I have seen firsthand the difference our Board can make—to regulation, to the profession, and ultimately, to patients. I invite you to take part in the 2026 election, whether by putting your name forward or supporting colleagues who do. Your voice matters, and your participation will help shape the future of medical regulation in Ontario.
