The College is pleased to announce that our new and improved public register will launch on October 16, 2024. This database houses public profiles of all 47,000+ licensed Ontario physicians and is a frequently used resource.

The redesign features a number of enhancements, including improved user-friendliness and strengthened cybersecurity. As with the current register, visitors will search using a physician’s CPSO number or name to pull up a profile containing similar publicly available information as before, including the physician’s registration history, specialties, hospital privileges, and any applicable practice restrictions or discipline findings.

All this information will be organized on a physician’s profile using tabs to reduce the need for users to scroll for information.

One change is that the new register will allow physicians to publicly display a business email address, which can be added through the Portal. The email address used to receive CPSO communications will remain private, unless the physician indicates that it is the same as the business email address.

The new register will allow physicians to publicly display a business email address, which can be added through the Portal.

Another key change relates to registrants’ gender identity. The new register will reflect one of five options: man, woman, non-binary, two-spirit or prefer not to say. When the new register launches, the existing options (male, female and non-binary) will be mapped onto the new options. Registrants can ensure that their gender identity and other personal information (including name and address) is up to date by making changes directly in the portal after October 16th or by contacting us for help.

We’re also renaming the register from “Doctor Search” to “Physician Register”, which reflects its function more accurately. We have moved to a modernized cloud-based technology that will help further safeguard our data against cyber threats.

We developed these and other enhancements in consultation with stakeholders, including Ontario physicians, pharmacists, hospital staff, post-graduate offices/medical schools, and members of the public. To help with the transition, we’ll be publishing some resources on our website about using the new register. As always, you can also contact our Physician Advisory Services team with any questions.
