CPSO has developed a new Advice to the Profession: Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Practice document that sets out guidance for physicians who want to use artificial intelligence (AI) tools as part of their practice. This guidance replaces and expands on the previous Advice, which focused solely on AI scribes.

The new Advice document includes information on the kinds of AI tools being used in the health care space, including AI scribes and tools for intake, triage, and supporting clinical decision-making.

The Advice document supports physicians using AI tools, highlights the potential benefits of doing so, and includes some key considerations for integrating these tools into their practice.

OntarioMD and Canada Health Infoway both have AI Scribe Programs that identify approved AI scribe vendors. The Advice document provides information on these programs and points to additional helpful resources for physicians.
